Michael serves as Of Counsel in medical and white-collar criminal law as well as in healthcare compliance. In these areas, he also acts as defense counsel. He holds the Chair of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, and Criminology at Bielefeld University and currently serves as Dean of the Faculty of Law. His research focuses include medical and white-collar criminal law, corporate and healthcare criminology, and healthcare compliance. He is the founder and academic coordinator of the Bielefeld Center for Healthcare Compliance (BCHC), which conducts research projects and continuing education programs on various aspects of compliance management in the healthcare sector. In addition, Michael is a member of the editorial board and co-editor of the Journal of Medical Criminal Law (medstra) and serves as head of the Confidentiality Office for Organ Transplantation, a joint body established by the German Medical Association (BÄK), the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (GKV-SV), and the German Hospital Federation (DKG).
